"Bend in the Road Beach" Madison Art Society 51st Annual Juried Show

Hi Friends,

Can you believe August is almost here? Summer always seems to race by, and every year I find myself wishing July would slow down just a little. Since I can't stop time, I'm making the most of it–and I'm excited to share that I'll have work in two exhibitions this month. If you're in Connecticut, I'd love to see you at one of the opening receptions!

CURRENT SHOW:

Lyme Art Association's "Expanding Visions" Juried Show

This is always one of my favorite exhibitions because of its wonderfully eclectic mix of artwork. My collage, Beachcombers (pictured below), is featured this year. It's one of the few black-and-white collages I've created, making it a bit of an outlier in my collection.

Opening Reception: Saturday, August 1 • 5:00–7:00 PM

I'd love to see you this Saturday night if you're in the area! The Lyme Art Association is located at 90 Lyme Street in Old Lyme, CT.

CURRENT SHOW:

I'm thrilled that juror David Rau, Senior Director of Education and Visitor Engagement at the Florence Griswold Museum, selected my original collage, Bend in the Road Beach (pictured at the top of this email) for this show. The exhibition is on view August 3–28 at the E.C. Scranton Memorial Library in Madison, Connecticut. The piece was inspired by a photograph I took of a friend leaving the beach on Martha's Vineyard. Opening Reception: Thursday, August 20 • 5:30–7:30 PMI'm especially looking forward to hearing my talented friend Laura Clapp perform during the reception. Laura recently celebrated the release of her new album, and I had the pleasure of attending her album release concert hosted by the Occasional Coffee House. If you're joining us for the reception, you're in for a real treat.

UPCOMING SHOW:

The Keyes Gallery, Branford, CT

An Exhibition Space at the Willoughby Wallace Memorial Library

This upcoming exhibition has been nearly a year and a half in the making. Artists are selected through a juried process and awarded exhibition space at the Keyes Gallery for a two-person show. I'm honored to be exhibiting alongside the talented Aaron Tessler from September 11–October 5. Please join us for the Opening Reception on Sunday, September 13, from 4:00–6:00 PM at the Willoughby Wallace Memorial Library, 146 Thimble Island Road in Branford, Connecticut.

I recently had the chance to visit one of the first collages I ever created at a collector's home. The piece, Summer Slice (pictured above), instantly took me back to my very first art exhibition in Clinton, Connecticut. I remember feeling both nervous and excited as a new artist, and I was thrilled when a few of my collages sold during the show. It was one of those defining moments when I quietly thought to myself, "Maybe I really can do this..."

Looking back on that moment reminds me just how grateful I am for everyone who has encouraged and supported my work along the way.

Enjoy August, soak up every warm day, and thank you for being part of my art journey!

Fondly,

Alex
