BELOW: "Still Mystic": CWA Juried Members Show
Hi Friends,
Did you know that today is "Independent Artists Day"? April 3rd.
It's the perfect day for a new blog post...
As a collage artist, I find that I do a spring cleaning of my artwork this time of year. I decide what is and what is not working and then I begin again. This past winter I found myself creating more 'realistic' collages. However, I like it when I merge 'the real with the abstract'-as in "Owenego Rocks" (pictured below). In fact, I'm so grateful to Dean Fisher (juror) for articulating my style in such an amazing way:
CURRENT SHOWS
LYME ART ASSOCIATION:
"Owenego Rocks" is still on view through April 11th at the Lyme Art Association in Old Lyme, CT. This show is especially inviting as it is four art shows in one. My collage is part of the "Rock of Ages" exhibit in their back gallery.
DENISE BIBRO FINE ART GALLERY (NY):
#COLLAGENOW is an online show that features many contemporary collage artists from all over the United States. I'm thrilled to have had "Andy" and "Lone Egret" juried into this show. "Andy" is a portrait collage I made from an autographed photo that I treasure of Andy Warhol (the photo is not one of his usual poses with the crazy hair and stare, it's one with a more subdued, pensive gaze).
Back in the 80's, I was obsessed with Interview magazine (which Andy Warhol founded). I used to collect issues and tear out many of the images to hang on my bedroom wall. My mother, who was an interior decorator, actually met Andy Warhol through a client of hers and surprised me with this personalized photo above. (In fact, she actually had to work with him a bit to coordinate fabrics with a portrait he was doing for her client's living room). Pretty cool, right?! The photo is now framed and hangs at the entrance to my studio.
CONNECTICUT WOMEN ARTISTS JURIED MEMBER SHOW
"Still Mystic" pictured at the top of this email, and "Onto the Beach" were recently accepted into this exhibit running from April 9-28 at the Artspace Gallery in Hartford, CT. The opening reception is on Saturday, April 13 from 1-3pm. Please join me if you're in the area!
Enjoy the warmer weather and I'll be in touch next month. As always, thank you for following along in my art journey.
Fondly,
Alex
